When I conceptualized my blog "Material Girl", I always had a vision in mind of me wearing a GLAMOROUS pink gown that paid homage to both Marilyn Monroe and Madonna's classic popular culture references. Traditionally, these women are thought of as sex symbols;  screen and stage sirens. But above all else, I think they are both PIONEERING business women who hustled their way from nothing into something. Women who knew their worth and capabilities; women who STARTED trends but never followed them.  When I tell you at the end of each of my blog posts to 'STAY MATERIAL', I obviously am referencing Madonna. But I'm more importantly using the word 'MATERIAL' as I've adopted it through my studies of law. If something is 'MATERIAL', it's of the utmost importance. It's ESSENTIAL. NECESSARY. You cannot live without it. And that's what I want women to feel about themselves. I want us to take good care of ourselves. I want you to SPOIL yourself every now and then. Because it is a FACT that when you FEEL good, you DO good. You take better care of your family. You perform better at work and academically. You are better to your friends and to your spouse. You contribute better to your community. What you do in Second Life spills into your Real Life. Honor both your AVATAR and RL self by taking care of YOU...

Reign Congrejo's soon to be released "PEONY" gown has captured my heart.

This is the pink, glamorous dress that I've been waiting for. This beautiful gown was created by one of our most recently added **UNITED** designers: PhAnToM Ixtar for the label GIZZA. Colorful and full of movement, this dress is sure to get you noticed at your next event. It's exquisitely crafted and comes with floral accents for both your hip and hair. GIZZA is filled wall to wall with beautiful gowns, fun casual and clubwear, menswear, and more. The hair is one of my all time favorites by **UNITED** designer Mirja Mills for EMO-tions. Mirja makes such unique, distinctive hair; hair that doesn't look quite like anyone else's and makes you feel special everytime you put it on. Lastly, the jewelry is from Sonatta Morales VHC. Great pearl sets are difficult to find in SL, and this one is one of the lovliest I've seen. I'm really enjoying styling with the work of our **UNITED** designers, and I'm growing more and more anxious to see what they all have up their sleeves for this summer's most exciting fashion event and styling competition...

Prissy Price; producer, entrepreneur (and shopaholic fashionista amongst other things) has proposed a challenge of sorts to the ENTIRE Second Life fashion community: If designers can come together on a STYLE CARD, why can't they come together on a LIVING model in a fashion show? Exchange their creations and concepts with other content creators to build one fabulous look? Well if the initial response is any indication, the answer is a resounding YES THEY CAN! I am HONORED to be an OFFICIAL BLOGGER and consultant for this ground-breaking event, the likes of which our SL grid has never seen. Apparel, shoe, accessory, hair, pose, skin and shape designers collaborating with the industry's TOP models and entertainers to put on an EPIC series of shows spanning July 8-10, 2011. And perhaps the BEST part is that ALL clothing from the event will be on sale in the "UNITED" store, and ALL proceeds will go directly to 'Relay For Life.' There will be FASHION. There will be MUSIC AND LIVE ENTERTAINMENT. There will be FIERCE COMPETITION. INTRIGUED yet...?

This project excites me the most because my passion is truly styling and pairing. The thought of AMAZING designers collaborating on a cohesive vision really speaks to me. So as I keep you posted on the progress of the **UNITED** event, I'll highlight some of the participating designers with looks I've put together in honor of their GENIUS. I think you all know by now that I LOVE a fabulous monotone look. And this particular look all began with Ranena Olivier's PERFECT black cocktail dress. If you've never visited *[ROC]* it's high time you made the trip. She does gowns, urban casual, shoes, and everything in between. The collar is from an ensemble by Simone Udimo of Java Fashion Designs. She has a store FILLED with ridiculously affordably priced pieces and ensembles that will make you look twice at the price tag. The shoes are from Zinnbrick, designed by Monique Zinnemann. I'm a sucker for a well-made animal print and the color hud was surprisingly easy to use. The skin is by my husband Tairo Parkin for CHANGING FACEZ & SaVy SKINS, and I think we all know how I feel about him...=) And last but by no means least, the jewels are from Jewelry By Zuri, the pantyhose are from Sonatta Morales, the belt's +plus and the hair is by the ICONIC one: Neveah Niu for ICONIC Hair Couture. Neveah has just released several new styles that are definite head turners, and I'll be showing them all in my next post. I'm excited that her talent will get even more focus than it already has received; she is truly one of the most talented hair designers in game...

It's a rarity for me to wear an ensemble the way a designer presents it. It's my humble opinion that as a fashion blogger, I have somewhat of a responsibility to showcase not only items available for purchase here in SL, but also unique and original ways of pairing pieces together. That being said, excuse the hipocracy of today's posting...because every once and awhile, I am ASSAULTED by the beauty of a content creator's work and I can't bring myself to alter it. This design by the POWERHOUSE duo Vitabela Dubrovna and Precious Restless for Vita's Boudoir is truly remarkable. I love vivid textures, colors and prints; ones that make you want to run your hands up and down the garment. The shoulder pads and tentacles give it a futuristic and edgy vibe, while the bodysuit itself is sexy and vibrant. With a MASTERPIECE like this, you have to keep the rest simple. Neveah Niu for ICONIC Couture Hair never disappoints when I'm in need of an upper echelon coiffure that stands out from the rest. This hair is supposed to include a shaved hairbase, however mine wasn't inside the folder and Miss Niu wasn't online last night (o.o). I'll wear it once again in a future post to show it off in all it's glory. And no, this isn't a "ready to wear" ensemble that you'll go shopping and have coffee with your girlfriends in, but it's DEFINITELY an avant garde look for when you're feeling particularly badass; and one your significant other might enjoy peeling off of you...

"Fashion For Life" started today, and as soon as the Bourke White sim opened I BOLTED to the Willow booth. Weezy Warwillow is one of my favorite content creators, and I always look forward to new and exclusive pieces from her. I grabbed this SUPERBLY constructed wrap dress and her EXQUISITE beaded cardigan (which I'll be showing you in a near-future post.) I love how highly detailed and REAL her garments look. If the RL fashion brands 'Laura Ashley' and 'The Gap' merged and brought a brand to SL, they would offer the design aesthetic of Willow. Weezy is another of those KEY designers that isn't trying to get rich selling her work; it's clear that she LOVES what she does, and it's more and more obvious with every piece she constructs. The hair I'm wearing is from [kik], and in the hour or so I wore it around FFL I was asked about it 3 separate times. It's quite lovely, just what I needed to showcase my new KILLER headpiece from NHA!, a newer shop boasting SUERIOR accessories and jewelry. And in closing, let me take the opportunity to thank riri bazar and lisbeth gummibaum @ 'HATE ME AND EAT ME' for offering and sending me TONS of makeup and poses. All poses in this post are their work and I'm ETERNALLY grateful for their recognition, generousity and LOVE.
