Teams have been formed, and I'm excited to see what these DYNAMIC designers and models come up with for the main events. And I want it on RECORD that when I got to make suggestions for team pairings, that I did put Vero Modero and Ranena Olivier Couture together. I am so in love with this dress, where do I begin. 'Puma' is sophisticated and highly detailed; the structural collar calls attention to the neckline, while the rouching and ruffles drag the eye down the frame. It's the perfect length, and the color (which I like to think of as fire engine red) is show stopping. And what's better than a feminine, red, ruffley cocktail number? Juxtaposing it against a masculine, classic fedora takes it to that next level. ROC has released these new hats as part of their male line, but wearing male items has always been ok in my opinion. Style is style, and Ranena has constructed some of the most perfect fedora's on the grid. It would be who of you to grab a few for summer; not only are they super-chic, they're affordable...

When I think of Pop Art my mind immediately goes to Andy Warhol. And anytime I think of Warhol, I have to think about VELVET UNDERGROUND. See Mr. Warhol was the manager of the band, and to say that their music was inspirational to the Pop Art Movement would be the understatement of a lifetime. I'd been ANXIOUSLY WAITING for the opening of the MODAVIA POP ART SHOW since I first heard about it last week. Some of my absolute FAVORITE DESIGNERS are a part of it, and I wasted no time this morning grabbing up my favorites pieces. Let's talk about POWERHOUSES. And by powerhouses I mean brands that continuously produce high-quality, show stopping, jaw dropping pieces, items and ensembles-time after time. If you're living under a rock and have never heard of {Meghindo's} then I encourage you to climb out from under it and join us in 2010. Meg's designs are always SEXY, yet sophisticated and polished. If I could pay her a flat fee every month and have her newest releases sent to me (sight unseen), I'd gladly do it.  She NEVER disappoints in the quality of her work, her knowledge of real life designers, her creativity, and maybe most importantly-her KINDNESS. She's very sweet and generous; she's gifted me with her work in the past. However it's my belief that even designers on your friends list have to make a LIVING, so I will ALWAYS pay for her work, even if she gifts me with it too. If there's a problem with anything she'll fix it right away. I wore these gold earrings from the photo while out shopping with a friend yesterday morning, and within an hour I was literally stopped 4 times with inquiries about the designer. Well they're from [glow] Studio, and they are PERFECTION. The attention to detail Linka pays to her jewelry never ceases to amaze me. She makes pieces that are timeless yet always fashion-forward. Already a powerhouse in gowns, bridal, accessories and casual wear, she has solidified herself as THE premiere spot for all things updo in second life. Mhm I said it. She's absolutely KILLING the game with her hair. It's always elegant and refined, but there's a twist of contemporary edge to it that makes it unlike anything I've ever seen before. And to round out this POWERHOUSE post, let's talk about the beautiful Launa Fauna of L.Fauna. So many ladies have SWORN by her skin for a long time now; always highly detailed and unique, it's the type of skin you won't ever want to take off. It's no secret that my husband Tairo is my primary skin provider (thank you baby ;) but I've recently become OBSESSED with Launa's lipsticks. The textures are so realistic and the colors are glossy (but not TOO glossy-not 'I just finished eating fried chicken' glossy.) She makes damn near an entire rainbow of shades, I'm in love with them all especially the 'Black' I'm wearing here. CheerNo has been outfitting some of the grid's most fashion forward males for a long time now. Everytime I see a guy in their pieces I am impressed with the quality and detail of work. So it's not shocking that I am equally (if not more) enamored with the stylings of CheerNo FEMME. In terms of "statement pieces", I believe CheerNo FEMME to be at the top of their game. Everything is so sophisticated and edgy, structured and crisp. I'm wearing one of their Annie Jackets, which is available in several different colors/patterns. It's the type of jacket that could go over jeans or leggings, and even complete a little black cocktail dress. The power shoulders and lovely draping are classic yet modern simultaneously. Why Zeppelin? Because my Papa LOVES that song and he would sing it to my sister and I when we were little. Why a blog? Because it's time. Why the title 'Material Girl'? Because of the obvious; I LOVE fashion, shopping, styling, modeling, and witnessing some of the most dynamic minds in the world converging in this place we call Second Life. Designers don't get their just due. There's something magical about starting with absolutely nothing and ending up with show-stopping garments. Exquisite jewelry and accessories. Stunning skins, shapes and hair. Breathtaking shoes and bags. Good GOD don't get me started on shoes and bags. And it is my belief that when we know better we do better. When women in SL take care and pride in their avatars, when we elevate our style in-world, we find ourselves doing the same in our everyday REAL lives. When we look our best we FEEL our best.
